Remember my article about UB40's Ali Campbell quitting? And how it was bollocks? Well, it didn't take a genius to guess but it took a statement from him to clarify. I will only say it once. I told you so.
According to the London Telegraph, our man quit amid a row, citing "management difficulties" that have made his professional life "intolerable".
When the band's PR flack made the statement that I posted about earlier, Ali Campbell took umbrage and responded with an open denial to all his fans on the band's website. Methinks the PR flacks decided to one-up him with their announcement in order to "manage" him and situation and our man refused to be thus managed once he knew about it.
Sounds like a nasty domestic, doesn't it? Our man is clearly embittered as he says,
"That is not the truth. I released my first solo album 13 years ago and when I released my current solo album I had every intention of continuing to balance my solo career with my commitment to the band," he said.
"The reason for me leaving the band is that management difficulties, which have been ongoing for almost five years, had become intolerable.
"I have been deeply unhappy with administrative practices and with many decisions that have been made in recent years, and I have an ongoing investigation into the handling of my business affairs in relation to UB40.
"Suffice to say, I felt I had no other option but to resign from my band."
That's kind of shite for him I think. But wait, "management difficulties" and "administrative practices? Who are these "management" and "administration" for UB40? Well, I am sure the decision must have been hard for him after 30 years. As he claimed,
"I know UB40 will carry on successfully without me and I wish them all the very best - they have been my family for the last 28 years and will always be my brothers," he added.
Well, all the best, Ali and good luck UB39.
